Musical Mood

After being harassed by Ny & Q, I've decided to update all of my radio.blogs. I know it's been a minute (like almost a year) since I've added new music. I really haven't had the patience to sit down & figure out what new music I want to add to each of them. Q told me that I have absolutely no excuse as to why I haven't added new music. I aint got no job (well I do...I'm just not there) & I aint got ish to do. Ny called me trife. So, I decided to add new music to the Christian radio.blog. I'll add new music to the others over the weekend.

I wasn't going to do a song listing for the tunes that I placed inside of christian rb, but I changed my mind. Cut & Paste is a beautiful thing.

Christian Radio

1. Kierra Sheard- Sweetest Thing
2. Out of Eden- Have Mercy *
3. Newsboys - Entertaining Angels
4. Kirk Franklin - Always
6. J Moss- Livin' 4 *

17. Fred Hammond - Please Don't Pass Me By *
18. Kim Burrell- Love Is What You Do
19. Angie & Debbie Winans- Light Of Love *
20. The Clark Sisters- You Brought The Sunshine
21. Kirk Franklin- My Life, My Love, My All
22. Fred Hammond- Your Name Is Jesus
23. Deitrick Haddon - God is Good

* my personal favorites

This updated r.b includes a mix of gospel & contempo christian songs. None of them, with the exception of Donnie McClurkin & Out of Eden, would be considered new. I haven't bought much gospel music lately. I'm sorta falling out of favor with the genre...well not the genre per se but the new stuff that's coming out it's very appealing. That's why I've added all of my favorite old tunes. I like & that's really all that matters. I'm sure B.I.C, Fran & Gabi will appreciate it too.

Music Downloads

I've decided to give away three mp3s just because I'm a friendly chick. These songs have taken up permanent residence on the iPod.

Stephen Marley "Hey Baby" (right click & save)

This song is a fire. I love it! "Hey Baby" is one of the tracks on Marley's upcoming album entitled "Got Music?". I've already pre-ordered my copy.

Debra Cox "Nobody Cares" (song no longer available)

I purchased the "Hotel Rwanda" Soundtrack a few months ago. When I listened to the CD, I fell in love with this song. I feel sad for Rwanda as I listen. It makes me angry that the world turned it's back on the country when it was in dire need of help.

Roy Ayers- Everybody Loves The Sunshine" (song no longer available)

I grew up listening to old school music. This is one of those songs that I absolutely loved. I rolled my eyes when I heard that it had been sampled on Mary J Blige's song "My Life". This one is for the old heads. lol.

Enjoy the music

Hey T,

Good picks for your update! Took it WAY back with that Clark Sisters classic! Felt like throwin on some acid wash jeans and freaky Rees!

I have a question open to anyone. Looking at the blog, I notice Woody Rock. My question: What do you feel about R&B artist who cross over and sing Gospel, but still want to sing R&B? (e.g R.Kelly, Woody Rock, Michelle Williams, Mario Winans...)

To me it's confusing. I really cant understand how you can call on the name of Jesus in one song, and then have your girl on the kitchen coutner bumpin skins in the next song (or CD in Kells case.)BUT THAT'S JUST ME!

Take Care,

Peace and Blessings

Mary is famous for butchering classic. She butchered Im going Down by Rose Royce, she killed Searching by Roy Ayers, she murdered Bennie and the Jets by Elton John!

Peace and Blessings!

To B.I.C.: You have to remember that although Mary is butchering these artists' songs, they have the power to accept or reject her versions, and for the sake of royalties and whatever else they can get out of it, they're ALLOWING her to do it. Always gotta look at both sides man.

As for R&B artists wanting to do gospel, what about gospel artists wanting to do R&B i.e. Bebe Winans? I find THAT confusing, in my humble opinion.

Timi: God Bless you sis! I'm drowning my ears in the sound of The Thesis right now (still havent copped it). Loverly. And thanks for those other songs, how generous of you :)

Ok, first.

"You brought the sunshine. You are the sunshine." Lovin' it.

I may not agree with a lot of these titles. But it's yours, sis, do as you please.

What gets me, though, is this idea that we can separate the sacred from the secular. That one moment Al Green can sing a song about love to a woman and then another about love to God or fileo love and that they mean different things. That they aren't connected to each other. They ARE fundamentally connected to each other. Faithfulness is required in all our love songs because faithfulness is required in our love. Love does not exist outside of faithfulness, outside of the realm of God.

Robert Kelly is insanely talented. But he has absol-poso-lutely NO faithfulness. None. I'm not judging him, I feel for him. But his fruits show. It's Christians and those around the Church who are all over him and accepting him and his music. I'm sorry. NO! Love the player, hate the game. Kelly needs to get out of that game before he starts trying to sell this image. He needs to practice, for a while, until his fruits are evident, faithfulness before he can start making real Gospel albums that glorify God. This don't glorify God. Like coming out of the strip club and passing out tracts.

*Yanking at the plank in his own eye*

I haven't listened to BeBe's "secular" stuff. Can't comment on Woody Rock. Didn't even know he was "secular." And Lord help me, I have the hugest crush on Michelle. But she upsets me.

Mary J. can butcher my songs. It's like Kanye (big example) doing "All Falls Down." Give Lauryn her fans back and extra cred (not that she really needs it).

And Christine, honestly, Switchfoot. Been down with them from day 1. It's all about integrity and faithfulness, which they have in spades.

Speaking of the pretend divide between secular and sacred,

Timi, I like you. I like that I'm slowly, slowly getting to know bits and pieces about you. I feel the feeling's mutual.

And I can't speak for everyone on this - but what the heck am I - or Adam for that matter - doing on your "Christian" list. What, are we incompetent of speaking with non-Christians? Are we that unpresentable? Do we have to be seated at the children's table? Is there a need for a children's table?

To quote the drummer from Switchfoot, "Christian is our my faith, not our genre."

B.I.C- That was a great question. I think artist who crossover & do gospel are a bit confused. I think it skews there witness if they are actually trying to reach people with their music. In Woody Rock's case, I read somewhere that he only made a gospel album because it was his dying mother's wish. And after she died, he made the album then almost immediately went back to Dru Hill. It's sad that he felt he had to "share the gospel" out of obligation and now out of his true calling in Christ. As for the rest...like R. Kelly...don't get me started on Mr. R-Rah. The judgemental side of me will kill his character dead. lol.

Christine- You too make a good point. What about gospel artists who switch over & do R&B? This is interesting because I actually think that Christian artists have an easier time making the crossover to R&B (or any other secular music) than secular artists do in crossing over to the christian genre. Check P.O.D, Yolanda Adams, Six Pence None The Richer, Stacie Orrico, Kirk Franklin, Oleta Adams...and so on. I don't necessarily think that it's a bad thing...but one important factor that I must point out about the artist I mentioned is that even when they became "mainstream" household names...they never stopped singing the "gospel" if you will. I think BeBe Winans, in all honesty, is an opportunist. You can take that any way you want to...but I think most of you know what I mean when I say that. lol

Jason- I will happily put you & Adam on the Heathen list. lol.

Christine: You are right about Gospel artist who cros-over! I think it does send a more confusing message than when R&B artist cross-over. I never heard BeBe sing about bumpin skins though. (And please correct me if I'm wrong.)I think BeBe could be called an Inspirational artist.
